GMA LGU suspends trike franchise renewal fees amid rising fuel costs

GEN. MARIANO ALVAREZ, Cavite (PIA) — The Municipal Government of General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite, suspended the collection of franchise renewal fees for tricycle drivers and operators for the rest of the year.

Last April 7, Mayor Medardo Custodio Jr. signed Ordinance No. 2026-401 to suspend the collection of tricycle franchise renewal fees amid the ongoing oil crisis.

The ordinance, collectively authored by members of the Sangguniang Bayan, will suspend the collection of renewal fees to provide relief for tricycle operators and drivers plying routes in the municipality.

“The continuing increase in fuel prices and the prevailing oil and energy crisis have significantly affected the income and daily subsistence of tricycle operators and drivers in the municipality.”

Although the ordinance will apply to all local tricycle operators and drivers, the Sangguniang Bayan clarified that the suspension applies only to franchise renewal fees, and not to new franchise applications, penalties, and fines.

The suspension of franchise renewal fees will be effective for the rest of the year 2026, or until oil and energy prices have been declared stabilized by the national government. (PB-PIA CALABARZON, Public Information Office – GMA Cavite/Facebook)
