Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano on Monday welcomed the approval of the country’s first nationwide digital connectivity master plan, saying it provides clearer direction for reforms envisioned under the Konektadong Pinoy Act, which he authored.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. approved the nationwide digital connectivity master plan on January 26, 2026. The plan outlines the government’s long-term strategy to expand reliable and secure internet access across the country, with particular focus on unserved and underserved areas.
The approval comes five months after the Konektadong Pinoy Act lapsed into law in August 2025. The measure seeks to lower barriers to entry for service providers, encourage competition, and give consumers more affordable and diverse internet service options.
Cayetano earlier said the law was designed to modernize the country’s digital framework and expand nationwide internet access, stressing that its full impact depends on the presence of a comprehensive, long-term connectivity plan.
“This law modernizes our digital infrastructure, ensuring that all Filipinos have access to affordable, quality, and up-to-date information and communication technologies,” Cayetano said.
He added that even the best ICT plans would fall short without actual connectivity on the ground.
Cayetano also underscored the need for modern technology to streamline government services, promote transparency, and improve service delivery, particularly in education.
“If all of these different laws work, we also hope to have free WiFi in schools to help the students,” he said.
With the nationwide digital connectivity master plan now approved, Cayetano said effective implementation will be crucial in determining whether existing laws translate into improved internet access for public services and education. PR
