DOST-CALABARZON brings HEIs nationwide to DLSU’s newly proclaimed KIST Ecozone for benchmarking visit

To advance the development of Knowledge, Innovation, Science, and Technology (KIST) Ecozones nationwide, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)–CALABARZON, as lead implementer of the KIST Ecozone Program, convened representatives from select Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the country for a benchmarking visit to the De La Salle University (DLSU)–Laguna Campus on October 21, 2025. The activity provided participants an opportunity to learn from DLSU’s newly proclaimed KIST Ecozone—officially established through Presidential Proclamation No. 985, s. 2025—and to draw insights that may guide the establishment of similar innovation hubs in their respective regions.

The benchmarking visit is part of DOST’s continuing efforts to guide HEIs in establishing their own KIST Ecozones under the DOST-PEZA Joint Memorandum Circular No. 2023-001. The initiative aims to equip HEIs with practical knowledge and replicable models that can guide the establishment of KIST Ecozones within their campuses, supporting the country’s broader Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) agenda.

Through site visits and discussions with the DLSU Innovation Hub’s management focals, participants learned from DLSU’s journey toward the development and proclamation of its KIST Ecozone, gaining valuable insights into its planning process, institutional commitment, and strategic coordination with partner agencies. A second batch of participants is scheduled to conduct the same benchmarking activity tomorrow, October 22, ensuring broader participation and engagement from other HEIs and DOST Regional Offices.

This activity also serves as a prelude to the upcoming DOST Inno.Venta 2025: Transforming Discoveries to Economic Impact, which will be held on October 23–25 at Batangas State University – The National Engineering University (BatStateU). BatStateU, one of the pioneers of KIST Ecozone development, manages the BatStateU KIST Park, officially proclaimed under Presidential Proclamation No. 947, s. 2020.
