CALAMBA CITY, Laguna (PIA) β Government aid for the affected families in the CALABARZON region has reached more than P2.6 million as the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues its response to the emerging needs in various communities.
Over the weekend, prolonged rains caused by Tropical Depression Maymay and the southwest monsoon (Habagat) has affected over 91,011 individuals from 286 barangays across the region.
As of August 9, the DSWD has provided assistance valued at Php 2,556,557.29, which included 3,453 Family Food Packs (FFPs) and 35 Non-Food Items (NFIs). Local government units in the affected areas have also provided hot meals and other NFIs amounting to Php 110, 583.00
Local government units have opened a total 198 evacuation centers and catered to 4,335 comprised of 14,807 individuals after being evacuated from high-risk communities.
Rizal Province has logged the highest number of residents currently staying inside evacuation centers with a total of 1,366 families and 5,251 individuals. The DSWD also reported evacuees from the provinces of Cavite (941 families, 3,190 individuals), Laguna (1,105 families, 3,026 individuals), Batangas (833 families, 2,957 individuals), and Quezon (356 families and 1,159 individuals).
The DSWD has also reported some 5,471 families consisting of 18,855 individuals currently staying outside of evacuation centers and seeking temporary shelters with relatives within the area.
According to the DSWD, the weather disturbance has affected a total of 25,322 families comprised of 91,011 individuals across 286 barangays across the region.
Although TD Maymay has moved over to the Philippine Sea on Thursday afternoon, the southwest monsoon has brought moderate to heavy rains in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and some parts of Quezon province. This resulted to the overspilling of major rivers and localized flooding in low-lying and river-adjacent communities. (PB-PIA CALABARZON, with reports from DSWD Region IV-A)
