CALAMBA CITY, Laguna (PIA) — The Department of Health (DOH) in CALABARZON assured that vaccines are safe and effective in protecting children aged six (6) to 59 months against measles and rubella as it rolls out the Ligtas Tigdas campaign.
In an interview with the Philippine Information Agency CALABARZON and Radyo Pilipinas Lucena’s Sulong Southern Tagalog program, Dr. Mark Nicolas Santos of the DOH CALABARZON Family Health cluster assured that the vaccines being administered by the DOH have passed several studies to ensure its safety and efficacy for children.
“Itong bakuna sa routine immunization ay ibinibigay over the past 50 years na po sa ating bansa. So proven and tested ‘yan dahil ang vaccines natin ay dumadaan sa studies.”
Transmitted through bodily fluids through such droplets of saliva and mucus from the mouth, nose, or throat of an infected person, routine immunization can help prevent measles and rubella from spreading through herd immunity.
“Layunin nating maka-achieve ng herd immunity at maputol ang transmission ng measles at rubella. Kung hindi tayo mabibugyamn ng supplemental dose, maalaki ang tsansa na kapag may pumasok na sakit ay pwede pa ring madapuan ng [virus], maging carrier at maaaring kumalat ‘yung sakit. Ito ang gusto nating maiwasan.”
Santos added, “Ang gusto natin ay lahat makapatangap ng pantay-pantay na dose ng vaccine para mapigil ‘yung transmission ng mga sakit na ito.”
Although an estimated 70 percent of CALABARZON’s population have been vaccinated against measles and rubella, the DOH CALABARZON continues to strengthen its routine immunization program through the Ligtas Tigdas campaign.
“Ang mga bakuna natin ay libre at makukuha sa pinakamalapit na health centers, or pagdating ng MR-SIA VAS ay pwedeng makuha sa mga lugar ng bakunahan. Importanteng alamin ng mga magulang at caregiver ang schedule sa mga lugar natin at kung saan gaganapin.” (PB-PIA CALABARZON)
